What’s Really Getting in Your Way?
A free 7-day email course to help you understand what is actually happening when something you genuinely want to change keeps becoming difficult to begin or continue.
Free | 7 Days | One short email a day | Around 5 – 10 minutes
You’ve probably asked yourself the question before:
Why do I keep getting stuck with this?
Those are all explanations for the same outcome: “I didn’t do it.”
But “I didn’t do it” only tells you how things ended.
It doesn’t necessarily tell you what happened along the way.
What’s Really Getting in Your Way? is a free seven-day email course that helps you look more closely before deciding what the problem is.
Over the week, you’ll take one real example from your own life and look at it from several different angles — what happened, what changed and what you may have assumed it meant.
By the end, you should have a much clearer picture of what may actually be getting in the way — so you can stop trying to solve the wrong problem.
Understand what’s really getting in the way — and why it keeps happening.
It’s Easy to Make the Wrong Thing the Problem
When something keeps not happening, it is easy to reach for a familiar explanation:
I need to be more disciplined.
I need a better routine.
I need to stop procrastinating.
I need to make a proper plan.
I need to try harder.
Sometimes one of those things really is the answer.
But not always.
Sometimes what looks like procrastination is uncertainty.
Sometimes what looks like lack of commitment is a plan that only works when everything else goes smoothly.
And sometimes the same outcome — “I didn’t do it” — has been reached for completely different reasons.
And if you start with the wrong explanation, it is very easy to spend a lot of effort trying to fix the wrong thing.
These seven days are about looking a little more closely before you decide what the problem is.
Why This Exists
I’ve spent much of my working life turning ideas into things that actually have to work — often in complicated circumstances, with competing priorities and plans that rarely survive completely intact.
Then, in early 2025, this got very personal very quickly. The circumstances around a job I had worked hard to get changed during a 15-minute televised national briefing.
I had never really thought of myself as an entrepreneur. But I felt strongly that I needed to explore what might be possible outside the traditional employment model in my sector. Within days, I was mapping my skills, experience and what I could potentially build. Beaming Bernie started there.
Since then, I’ve been building it alongside a demanding full-time job, on-call responsibilities, continuing uncertainty and an entirely new set of things to learn.
I certainly didn’t lack the motivation to make it work. But motivation didn’t stop plans changing, things taking longer than expected or approaches that seemed perfectly sensible on paper proving much harder to make work in real life.
And that reinforced something important.
When something you genuinely want to do doesn’t happen as you expected, knowing the outcome rarely tells you enough about why.
Understanding what actually happened along the way gives you a much better starting point for working out what needs to be different.
That is the thinking behind What’s Really Getting in Your Way?
This May Be For You If
There is something you genuinely want to change, begin or get back to — but somehow it keeps not happening.
You start with good intentions, only to find that work, life or something you hadn’t anticipated changes the plan.
You’ve tried fresh starts, better routines or promises to yourself before, but they haven’t always made the difference you expected.
You’ve begun to notice that the same outcome doesn’t necessarily happen for the same reason every time.
Or you simply know that “I need to try harder” no longer feels like a particularly useful explanation.
If any of that feels familiar, these seven days will give you somewhere to start looking more closely.
Over Seven Days, You’ll Look at Things Differently
Each day takes one part of the experience and looks at it a little more closely.
You’ll explore:
- what was actually happening when your intention changed
- whether the same thing really does keep happening
- what you usually reach for when things start to slip
- the conclusions you may have begun drawing about yourself
- what your plans quietly assume about the life you have
- what kind of help would genuinely make a difference now
There is no score at the end.
You are not trying to diagnose yourself, find the perfect explanation or force everything into one neat answer.
You’re replacing “I didn’t do it” with a clearer understanding of what actually happened — and what may have been getting in the way.
What You’ll Receive
For seven days, I’ll send you one short email each day.
Each email gives you one idea to consider and one simple reflection to apply to something real in your own life.
You’ll also receive the What’s Really Getting in Your Way? reflection sheet, so you have somewhere to keep anything you notice during the week.
You don’t need to clear your diary.
You don’t need to arrive with a goal perfectly worked out.
And you don’t need to fix anything as you go.
Around 5–10 minutes a day is enough.

This Is Not Another Challenge
You won’t be asked to overhaul your routine or hit a new target every day.
You won’t be taught a productivity system or told that more discipline is the answer.
And I’m not going to spend seven days trying to persuade you that one simple explanation accounts for everything.
Change is rarely that tidy.
This course is about understanding your own experience more accurately — what happened, what changed and what may have been getting in the way.
Because before deciding what to do differently, it helps to know what you are actually dealing with..
What Changes
Seven days from now, “I didn’t do it” should no longer feel like the whole story.
You should have a clearer idea of what actually happened — and enough understanding to see why “I just need to get on with it” may not be the answer either.
You may not have solved the thing you came in with.
That isn’t the promise.
But instead of starting again with the same explanation and the same response, you should be in a much better position to decide what actually needs to be different next..
